After several years as a highly sought-after presenter at IT conferences, conventions and user group meetups, Oracle ACE Director Jim Czuprynski was listening to to his friend and colleague Kellyn Gorman (aka @DBAKevlar) talk about how important it was to develop a personal brand.
Jim came to a sudden realization: He was someone who people really enjoyed talking to about technology, especially when he focused on how it can potentially make all of our lives more fruitful and perhaps even immensely fulfilling than we dared to imagine.
As an avid science fiction fan of the late 1960s his thoughts naturally turned to one of his favorite lines from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, as Captain Kirk explains to a young Ensign Sa’avik:
You have to understand why a starship works the way it does.
He thought of his other heroes and storytellers in the world of science and technology, like Bill Nye the Science Guy, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Carl Sagan. And then, like the proverbial bolt of lightning, it hit him:
He would become @JimTheWhyGuy.
